Job summary

Child Care Aware in Richmond, VA, seeks a Chief Operating Officer to translate strategy into execution, align programs and resources with our mission, and drive long-term goals. You will lead across operations, finance, and HR, ensuring strong organizational capacity and a high-performance culture.

The role partners closely with the CEO to grow the organization, implement scalable systems, and foster cross-functional collaboration while maintaining fiscal discipline and program impact.

Qualifications

• Strong leadership experience in nonprofit leadership, programs, operations, or strategy roles.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate organizational strategy into annual operating priorities with department ownership.
• Lead planning and performance management with KPIs and progress evaluation.
• Identify challenges and resource needs; develop and implement solutions for long-term effectiveness.
• Oversee day-to-day operations; supervise program and operations staff; improve internal systems and workflows.
• Develop and manage annual operating budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation; monitor financial performance.
• Serve as trusted advisor to CEO with data, analysis and recommendations; support board engagement.
