The New York Historical in New York, NY seeks a Staff Accountant to join the Finance team. You will work under the Accounting Manager to ensure GAAP compliance and support accounting and reporting activities for the museum's nonprofit operations.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years of accounting experience in a not-for-profit setting, strong Excel/Word skills, and a proactive, detail-oriented approach to multiple priorities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 1-3 years of accounting experience, not-for-profit environment preferred.
• Solid understanding of traditional bookkeeping and GAAP.
• Strong knowledge of Excel and Word.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Ability to recognize problems and develop solutions.
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic.
• Time management and multitasking under deadlines.
• Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge or Tessitura is desired.

Responsabilités

• Record cash receipts for deposits.
• Perform monthly revenue reconciliations and entries for various revenue areas.
• Prepare monthly journal entries for in-house revenue activity.
• Perform quarterly petty cash reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for multiple accounts.
• Record internal bank transfers and related activity.
• Download and archive bank documents.
• Communicate wire payment information to internal departments.
• Manage accounts receivable schedule and follow up on outstanding payments.
• Reconcile balance sheet and revenue accounts for month-end and year-end closing.
• Prepare journal entries, adjusting and recurring entries as needed.
• Act as AP back-up as needed.
• Run general ledger reports for departmental distribution and grant reporting.
• Assist with audits, year-end financial statements, and related projects.
• Assist with other projects and duties as requested.
