Job summary

Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance in California seeks a Finance Controller to oversee financial operations, ensure accuracy, and align with strategic goals. The role supervises the finance team and collaborates with leadership and the Board to maintain financial health.

Location is flexible—in person, hybrid, or remote—with travel to Upper Lake for quarterly activities. 40 hours/week preferred, with benefits after a 90-day period.

Qualifications

• 2–4 year degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years in government grant management.
• 4+ years supervising a finance team.
• 6+ years in nonprofit finance management or equivalent.
• GAAP knowledge.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks; certification preferred.
• MS Excel and Google Workspace proficiency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
• Experience with tribal communities is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee financial data specialist and ensure GAAP-compliant recordkeeping.
• Monitor cash balances and banking; manage payroll and billing schedules.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and audits; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Lead development of fiscal policies and internal controls.
• Support the Deputy Director and Executive Director on financial planning.
