SEIU 775 Benefits Group seeks a Controller to lead accounting operations, budgeting, and external audits. You will supervise staff, manage outsourcing partners, and ensure GAAP compliance for nonprofit reporting.

The role reports to the CFO and collaborates with investment strategy and financial operations. Requires 7+ years in accounting/finance and a strong governance mindset for a mission-driven organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 7+ years of accounting or financial management experience.
• Supervisory or management experience.
• Extensive knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience leading organizational budget development and budget administration processes.
• Experience managing annual audits and serving as the primary organizational contact for auditors.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial analysis, lookups, and pivot tables.
• Proficiency with financial systems, accounting software, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; ability to explain complex financial information.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting function, month‑end close and financial statement processes to ensure accurate reporting.
• Maintain accounting controls, policies and procedures consistent with GAAP, nonprofit and regulatory requirements.
• Serve as primary relationship manager for outsourced accounting service providers.
• Lead biennial budgeting process and cross‑department coordination.
• Oversee budget administration and variance analysis; reforecast as needed.
• Lead annual financial statement audits and act as primary contact for auditors.
• Improve accounting processes, financial systems, reporting capabilities, and efficiencies.
• Build cross‑functional relationships and provide financial guidance to leadership.
