Job summary

Houston Parks Board seeks a Controller to guide the accounting team, ensure GAAP/GASB compliance, and deliver timely financial reporting for management, the Board, and funders. The role includes audits, grants management, payroll, and process improvement within a hybrid work environment.

The ideal candidate has nonprofit experience, a CPA preferred, and a hands-on leadership style to strengthen internal controls and reporting accuracy across HPB programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in finance and accounting.
• Solid experience coordinating audits and reporting to stakeholders; budgeting and accounting for investments.
• Nonprofit fund accounting experience preferred; CPA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions and close processes.
• Ensure GAAP/GASB compliance and internal controls.
• Coordinate annual audit and Form 990 filings.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and donor reporting.
• Manage payroll and fringe benefits accounting.
• Support COO/CFO with financial reporting for leadership and board.
