Job summary

New Mexico Legal Aid (NMLA) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to lead the Finance Department in Albuquerque. The CFO will direct accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, audits, and grant/contract financial management, ensuring GAAP compliance and strong internal controls.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the CFO will translate complex financial information for decision-makers, provide strategic financial guidance, and participate in executive leadership to sustain the

Qualifications

• CPA or CGFM certification is required.
• Minimum 3–5 years of progressively responsible accounting/financial management experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.
• Experience supervising accounting/finance professionals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and analytical abilities.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic financial leadership as a member of the executive team.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Oversee accounting, tax, audits, and financial reporting.
• Manage grants, contracts, and cost allocations for compliant funding.
