Job summary

The American Ballet Theatre seeks an Accounting Manager to lead GL maintenance, month-end close, and grant accounting within the Finance team in New York. You will ensure timely, accurate financial reporting under GAAP and ASC 958, and support audits and internal controls.

You will supervise the Junior Accountant and collaborate with Development to reconcile contributions and grants, while driving process improvements and ensuring compliance across programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a non-profit organization.
• Thorough knowledge of GAAP, including non-profit accounting standards (ASC 958).
• Experience with general ledger reconciliation, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
• Grant accounting and restricted fund management experience.
• Proficiency in accounting software.
• Attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger and perform month-end close.
• Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Prepare financial statements and variance analyses for leadership.
• Record unrestricted and restricted contributions and program revenue.
• Coordinate with Development and other departments for donor accounting.
• Support annual external audit and Form 990 preparation.
• Identify control gaps and suggest improvements.
• Supervise Junior Accountant.
