Job summary

Bonita House is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and strengthen systems supporting our mental health nonprofit. This hands-on leadership role requires nonprofit accounting expertise, strong controls, and the ability to balance detail with strategy while guiding staff and delivering timely, insightful financial information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Five+ years of progressive accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting and at least two years of staff supervision.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting, including fund and grant accounting, restricted funding, government contracts, and financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience across core accounting functions: GL, close, AP/AR, payroll, budgeting, audit prep, and reporting.
• Experience leading a multi-funded organization; ability to translate complex financial concepts for non-financial audiences.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across GL, AP/AR, payroll, and fund accounting.
• Lead month-, quarter-, and year-end closes with a 15-day target for monthly close.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and adherence to nonprofit standards and grant requirements.
• Manage government contracts, restricted funding, and internal control improvements.
• Lead staff, collaborate with leadership, and communicate financial information clearly to stakeholders.
