Job summary

What You Will Do

• Pratt & Whitney’s Materials & Processes Engineering (MPE) organization is seeking a Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer to support research, development, and execution of nondestructive inspection projects. Key customers include the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Army, commercial airlines, and Pratt & Whitney engine programs.
• The role focuses on developing new inspection techniques, tooling, and applications for Pratt & Whitney engine components.
• All developed solutions must meet customer requirements for inspection capability, reliability, and practicality.
• Develop new inspection techniques, sensors, tooling, and procedures for nondestructive inspection applications including, but not limited to, eddy current (electromagnetic), ultrasonics, thermal, FPI, X-ray, visual (borescope), and other advanced inspection concepts.
• Plan, manage, and execute inspection development projects in a timely manner.
• Create novel and advanced inspection tooling and progress technologies through appropriate Technology Readiness Levels to support eventual field implementation.
• Collaborate closely with MPE-NDE Applications and Training teams on deployment of inspections to field operations.
• Monitor and assess project issues and develop resolutions that support customer satisfaction goals and program objectives.
• Verify that deployed inspection techniques meet structural flaw detection requirements, including minimum detectable flaw size and probability of detection (POD).

Qualifications You Must Have

• M.S or PHD. in Engineering or Material science is required.
• Experience in Nondestructive inspection technologies, which can include expertise in electromagnetic, ultrasonics, X-ray/CT, FPI, and emerging NDE methods.
• U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program contract.

Qualifications We Prefer

• NDE degree is preferred.
• Experience with electromagnetic or NDE modeling using tools such as COMSOL, CST, or CIVA.
• Exhibited clear and effective communication, both verbal and written.
• Confirmed effectiveness as a detail-oriented individual that possesses the ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task in a flexible, fast-paced, and challenging environment to effectively meet deadlines.

Salary and Employment

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply. RTX anticipates the application window closing approximately 40 days from the date the notice was posted. However, factors such as candidate flow and business necessity may require RTX to shorten or extend the application window.
