Responsibilities

• Prepare non-sterile compounded medications according to approved master formulations, prescriptions, calculations, and compounding records.
• Produce dosage forms such as capsules, creams, ointments, gels, troches, suspensions, solutions, and suppositories within assigned competency.
• Weigh, measure, triturate, mix, mill, encapsulate, mold, package, and label ingredients and finished preparations using approved equipment and methods.
• Compound hazardous non-chemotherapy preparations using designated containment engineering controls, PPE, and work practices.
• Perform required deactivation, decontamination, cleaning, and equipment changeover after hazardous-drug work.
• Document ingredient lot numbers, expiration dates, quantities, calculations, equipment, yields, personnel, and quality checks accurately and contemporaneously.
• Stage completed preparations and documentation for pharmacist verification.
• Clean, maintain, and document use of compounding equipment and work areas.
• Monitor inventory, rotate stock, verify storage conditions, and report shortages, damaged materials, or expired ingredients.
• Support formulation trials, workflow improvements, and competency activities under pharmacist direction.
• Report errors, deviations, spills, exposure events, or equipment problems immediately.
• Assist with inspection readiness and other duties assigned by the Compounding Pharmacist or PIC.
• Fulfill medication orders for pharmacist review

The Role

The Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician prepares patient-specific non-sterile compounded medications under pharmacist supervision. The technician follows approved formulas and procedures, operates compounding equipment, packages and labels preparations, maintains complete records, and supports inventory and production flow. The role requires precision, consistency, and strict adherence to hazardous and non-hazardous compounding controls. Hazardous Drug Compounding Scope

The pharmacy prepares both hazardous and non-hazardous compounded medications. Hazardous drug work is limited to non-antineoplastic, non-chemotherapy preparations. Employees assigned to compounding must follow applicable USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, OSHA, state, and federal requirements, including engineering controls, personal protective equipment, deactivation, decontamination, cleaning, documentation, and exposure-control procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• National pharmacy technician certification through a Colorado Board-approved organization.
• At least one year of pharmacy, laboratory, manufacturing, or compounding experience.
• Experience with USP <795>, USP <800>, capsules, semisolids, suspensions, or other non-sterile dosage forms.
• Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
• Accuracy in weighing, measuring, calculations, and documentation.
• Mechanical aptitude for compounding equipment.
• Strong organization and batch-to-batch consistency.
• Ability to follow instructions and elevate discrepancies.
• Teamwork in a production-focused pharmacy environment.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive hand and wrist movements.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance or accommodation as appropriate.
• Ability to wear required gloves, gowns, respiratory protection, and other PPE when medically cleared and required.
• Ability to work around powders, pharmaceutical ingredients, cleaning agents, and hazardous drugs using required controls.

Schedule and Work Environment

• Standard Monday through Friday workweek, including a scheduled 30 minute meal period. Approved overtime may be available when operationally necessary and will be compensated in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
• Punctuality and dependable attendance are essential.

Performance Expectations

• Accurate preparation and documentation of assigned compounds.
• Compliance with hazardous and non-hazardous segregation, PPE, and cleaning procedures.
• Consistent productivity without compromising quality.
• Proper equipment use, cleaning, and maintenance documentation.
• Immediate reporting of deviations, spills, exposure concerns, or inventory issues.

Compensation

• $30-$40 hourly, commensurate with experience and background.
