Position Description

POSITION TITLE: Substitute Teacher

FLSA: Exempt Professional

QUALIFICATIONS:Able to pass background check

REPORTS TO:Asst. Superintendent Human Resources

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Daily contracted services for the current school year.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Dress neatly and appropriately.
  • Reports to the principal upon arrival 15 minutes before the official school opening.
  • Reviews with the principal or their designee, all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching. day.
  • Maintains established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
  • Teaches the lessons outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher's Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.
  • Consults with the building principalbefore initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the teacher's notes or lesson plans.
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.
  • Writes a note about work completed at the end of each teaching day, and leaves it for the regular classroom teacher.
  • Reports to the building principal at the conclusion ofthe teaching day, and verifies whether or notservices will be required on the next teaching day.
  • Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Strives to maintainhygienic conditions and practices in the classroom.
  • Reports to the principal any serious accident or illness - affecting students in his or her charge.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the academic day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Assists theschool district to providea safe, nurturing environment for students.
  • Assists the district to complywith HR1(NCLB) requirements as specified by local, state, and federal mandates.
  • Performs such other duties as are assigned by the principal.
