Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is seeking a sterile processing technician for the Hinsdale, IL facility. The role involves receiving soiled instruments, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, and ensuring proper inventory and documentation.

On-site position with day shift and potential on-call duties. Preferred candidates have sterile processing experience, an associate degree, and BLS CPR certification; CSPDT/CRCST preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience as a sterile processing technician is preferred.
• Associate degree preferred; high school diploma is required.
• BLS CPR certification preferred; CSPDT or CRCST certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive soiled and contaminated instruments or equipment from surgery, anesthesia, and nursing units.
• Prepare, clean, and disinfect instruments and equipment.
• Inspect instruments/equipment for damages, malfunction, or unacceptable condition.
• Prepare instruments for sterilization and verify correct items and quantities.
• Maintain records on sterilization and track equipment issued to nursing units.
• Assist with supply levels and preparation for surgical cases.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area.
• Be dependable and flexible to meet scheduling needs; on-call assignments.

Job Description:

Schedule: Monday-Friday 2:45pm - 11:15pm, rotating weekends and holidays

Receives soiled and contaminated instruments or equipment from surgery, anesthesia, and nursing units. Prepares, cleans, and disinfects instruments and equipment appropriately. Inspects all instruments and equipment for damages, malfunction, or unacceptable condition. Prepares instruments and equipment for sterilization by verifying correct items and quantities. Assures proper sterilization procedures are performed and the effectiveness of the sterilizing process. Maintains required records on sterilization and tracks equipment and instruments issued to nursing units. Assists with maintaining adequate supply levels and supply preparation for surgical cases. Maintains cleanliness and proper order in the work area. Demonstrates proficient use of all equipment and knowledge of stocking and par levels for nursing units. Shows dependability and flexibility in meeting the scheduling needs of the department. Assumes on-call assignments and takes responsibility for personal and professional development. Other duties as assigned.

Education:

• High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
• Technical/Vocational School [Preferred]

Work Experience:

• Previous sterile processing technician experience [Preferred]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Preferred]
• Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) [Preferred] OR Certified Registered Central Service Tech (CRCST) [Preferred]
