Job summary

STA Family of Companies in Glendale, AZ is seeking a Non-CDL Transportation Specialist to operate a van on designated routes, transporting school pupils or clients to and from schools and activities.

Under supervision, you will perform safety inspections, maintain order, and assist with route timing and reports. Requirements include 21+ years, a valid driver's license, at least 3 years of driving, and a high school diploma; CPR/First Aid training may be required.

Qualifications

• Three years verifiable driving experience
• Current report of Driver Physical Examination
• Proficiency in the operation of assigned vehicles including equipment such as wheelchair lifts and other safety devices

Responsibilities

• Drive a minivan daily on designated routes according to time schedules.
• Transport pupils and clients to and from school and activities.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Maintain order and discipline among pupils and clients.
• Keep records and submit required reports.
• Sweep, clean and refuel vehicles.
• Instruct students on safe riding procedures and evacuation drills.
• Complete required ODE small vehicle operation certification course.

Job description

A Non-CDL Transportation Specialist bus driver is a person who, under the supervision of a manager, supervisor, dispatcher or trainer, operates a van over designated routes transporting school pupils, or clients to and from school or other locations. In addition, a bus driver may transport clients on private charter trips. Drivers may work with loud and disruptive clients. Drivers may also work with severely handicapped individuals.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Drive a minivan daily over designated routes in accordance with time schedules, loading and unloading pupils or clients at designated locations and schools.
• Transport school pupils and teachers on school activity trips.
• Perform pre and post-trip safety inspections of the vehicle being driven to ensure it is in proper working order.
• Perform a child check immediately after each run.
• Maintain good order and discipline among school pupils or clients.
• Follow company policies regarding pupil/client management and relations with parents, teachers, guardians, medical practitioners, medical facilities, and the public in general.
• As requested by the Operations Manager or Dispatcher, verify route turn for turn sheets and note any route changes with written notes; May participate in daily or weekly route builds
• As requested by the Operations Manager or Dispatcher, make additional directional or landmark notations on bus route sheets to assist future new or substitute van
• As requested by the Operations Manager or Dispatcher, observe and track route timing, such as total time en-route; time between stops; loading and unloading times or any other requested information for the purpose of establishing route efficiency.
• Keep records and submit reports as required.
• Sweep, clean and refuel vehicles.
• Instruct students on safe riding classes and perform evacuation drills as directed.
• Complete required ODE (Oregon Department of Education) small vehicle operation certification course.
• All other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities- Essential Job Requirements:

• Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of assigned vehicles. May include extra equipment such as wheelchair lifts, special needs safety vests, under all road and weather conditions.

• Certificate of training in first aid and CPR if required by contract.
