The Starmark Local, LLC Service Center Driver performs weekly route truck white glove deliveries of funeral products to funeral homes within 150 miles of a local service center. The typical route includes 10-12 stops. The driver supports the Service Center Director in fulfilling customer needs and maintains high service standards to ensure customer satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect trucks for defects before and after trips and report truck conditions.
- Review bills of lading during loading to ensure all items are correctly loaded and discrepancies are corrected before departure.
- Maintain driver logs according to DOT regulations (not required if less than 150 miles).
- Verify delivery schedules and ensure on-time delivery.
- At each delivery, verify unloaded items against the bill of lading, secure recipient signatures, collect COD payments, and reload necessary items.
- Submit all paperwork promptly to the Service Center Director.
- Communicate professionally and ethically with funeral professionals, crematory operators, and the public.
- Identify customer needs to achieve satisfaction and build trust through open communication.
- Coordinate with the Service Center Director on refunds or exchanges and assist with quality issues.
- Maintain excellent relationships with customers, respecting their privacy and transportation needs.
- Assist in loading next day’s orders and ensure proper packaging and securing of items.
- Assist with loading/unloading on days without deliveries or when needed.
- Strive for continuous operational improvements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Neat and organized appearance.
- Reside reasonably close to the Service Center for punctuality.
- Pass DOT physical and obtain a driver’s medical card (paid by Starmark).
- Valid State Driver’s License with a clean driving record, capable of CDL Class A.
- No serious infractions such as reckless driving, DUI/DWI in the last two years, hit and run, leaving the scene, or failing to report an accident.
- No suspended or multiple licenses.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to read tickets and load inventory correctly.
- Cell phone with voicemail and texting capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and in groups, sit or stand for long periods.
- Comfort with handling deceased bodies occasionally, and physical ability to lift 75 lbs., operate a lift gate, and handle a pallet jack.
- Forklift experience is a plus; training and certification provided.
- Ability to retain product knowledge and operate computers for scanning and faxing.
- Willingness to work with customers, be flexible, and use GPS routing tools.
- Responsibility for on-time deliveries and securing loads properly.
- Commitment to drug-free driving and above-average mathematical skills.
