Job summary

Southeast Area Transit District in Connecticut is hiring for FULL TIME and PART-TIME NON-CDL Bus Operator positions. You will operate small cut-away buses, assist passengers with disabilities, collect fares and coordinate transfers, using radio and MDT for communication.

We value safety, reliability and a strong customer-service mindset. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, at least 21, CT F endorsement, and the ability to work nights and weekends.

FULL TIME and PART-TIME NON-CDL (MicroTransit and ADA Paratransit Service) BUS OPERATOR FOR SOUTHEAST AREA TRANSIT DISTRICT

JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate small "cut-a-way" transit buses and wheelchair lifts/ramps.
  • Provide assistance to passengers with disabilities, including securing wheelchairs, boarding and exiting, and guidance as needed.
  • Collect fares, verify passes and ID cards, and coordinate passenger transfers.
  • Receive and transmit communications over a two-way radio and mobile data terminal (MDT).
  • Report schedule delays and complete and file reports, including accidents, detours, vehicle inspections, fares and passes, and other incidents; make recommendations for safety and route improvements.
  • Work cooperatively at all levels of personnel.
  • Attend in-service training, seminars or other professional development opportunities available by the District.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a position requiring excellent customer service skills.
  • At least 21 years old, valid Operator's License with CT "F" (Public Passenger) endorsement.
  • No more than one (1) moving violation in the last three years.
  • Ability to work until midnight, including weekends; maximum hours per day to not exceed CT Hours of Service.
  • Must not have outside employment that interferes with employment at SEAT.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical exam and pre-employment testing meeting the physical requirements of the position.
  • Must be able to attend training.
  • Must be able to effectively read, write, speak and comprehend Basic English.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

$20.89/Hour to start; Excellent FT benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, paid vacation, sick and personal days, 457k and an EAP program. PT Benefits include paid vacation, holidays and 457K.
