Job description

NOC Engineer

Position Title: NOC Engineer

Reporting Manger: Manager, Proactive Services

Team: Operations

Travel Requirements: Regular on-site customer visits

Status: Full-time

Essence:

The Technical Alignment Manager (TAM) is a senior member of the Operations Team who bridges technical assessment and pre‑sales, ensuring that what gets sold is grounded in what has been properly evaluated, designed, and scoped. The TAM is responsible for conducting regular onsite assessments of customer environments to identify misalignment and technical risk, and for equipping the Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) with the technical findings, risk data, and environmental insights needed to develop effective IT strategies and roadmaps for customers. The TAM also owns Pre‑Sales and Design Desk responsibilities, including solution design, vendor quoting, technical scoping, and Scope of Work creation. In this capacity, the TAM serves as the technical checkpoint between assessment and sale, ensuring proposed solutions are properly designed, validated, and scoped. Assessment findings directly inform client recommendations and project pipeline, making this a role that requires equal comfort in a customer's server room and a pre‑sales conversation.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or relevant study
  • 5-7 years of hands‑on technical experience in an MSP, VAR, or B2B IT Services organization, with demonstrated exposure to pre‑sales, solution design, or technical account management
  • Experience working for a service organization operating in a B2B Model
  • Experience completing or supporting pre‑sales quote requests, solution design, and technical scoping activities
  • Experience working directly with technology vendors and distributors to design solutions and obtain accurate pricing and lead times
  • Ability to translate technical designs into clear, well‑defined Scope of Work (SOW) documents
  • Exceptional understanding of implementation and configuration best practices associated with information technology systems and infrastructure
  • Exceptional understanding of risk assessment and risk management principles
  • Exceptional understanding of information technology ecosystems, relevant workflows, technical dependencies, and consequences of "doing I.T. the wrong way"
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passionate about helping people
  • Possesses a Do‑What‑It‑Takes attitude
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Duties:

Technical Alignment

  • Conduct regular, onsite technical assessments of customer computer and networking environments according to contractual commitments
  • Clearly identify and document areas of misalignment with TAG Solutions implementation and configurations standards and best practices
  • Complete the technical alignment reviews associated with the New Customer Onboarding Process
  • Identify and communicate technical risks, dependencies, and assumptions associated with proposed solutions prior to sale
  • Complete immediate proactive remediation work identified during assessments, addressing high‑priority risks or misalignments
  • Ensure client documentation remains current and accurate during regular assessments
  • Share assessment findings with the vCIO, providing the technical data and environmental insights needed to support long‑term IT planning efforts

Pre-sales and Design

  • Perform Pre‑Sales and Design Desk duties, including completing quote requests for new and existing customers
  • Design technical solutions that align with customer requirements, existing environments, and TAG Solutions standards and best practices
  • Design detailed Bills of Materials and obtain accurate pricing from vendors and distributors, ensuring quotes are commercially viable and properly margined before handoff to the vCIO or Sales Representative
  • Work directly with vendors and distributors to request, review, and validate quotes, configurations, and solution options
  • Ensure proposed solutions are technically feasible, properly scoped, and suitable for implementation and long‑term support
  • Apply TAG Solutions standards and best practices during solution design and pre‑sales activities to reduce technical risk and prevent misalignment
  • Create clear, accurate Scope of Work (SOW) documents that define project objectives, deliverables, assumptions, exclusions, and implementation responsibilities
  • Ensure Scope of Work documents accurately reflect the designed solution, customer requirements, and implementation effort
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, vCIOs, and engineering teams throughout the pre‑sales and design process to ensure solutions are accurately represented and properly transitioned to implementation teams

Standards and Governance

  • Be an active participant of the TAG Solutions Standards and Best Practices committee, the internal team responsible for defining and maintaining approved configurations and implementation standards across the technical team

  • Empower the Service Team to deliver an incredible customer experience by creating and maintaining current and accurate customer documentation
  • Provide the vCIO with accurate, well‑documented technical findings, risk data, and environmental insights that enable informed IT strategy and roadmap development
  • Dedication to continuously defining the "right way" to implement and configure IT systems and infrastructure. Keep standards and best practices current and make them specific and granular
