Job summary

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a Systems Support Specialist III to support the NISSC 3 program at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado. Qualifications

• 7-10 years of systems/network administration in secure, mission-critical DoD or similar environments.
• Strong leadership across maintenance, integration, and data management.
• Experience allocating resources, monitoring progress and ensuring quality deliverables.
• Proven ability to resolve operational issues and provide timely status updates.
• Minimum TS/SCI clearance to start; DoD 8140 certs (Cloud+, GSEC, Security+, SSCP) preferred/required.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite and on-call system administration and operational support for mission systems at Peterson SFB.
• Troubleshoot and correct system, network, and software issues impacting operations.
• Perform preventive/corrective maintenance, including patches and configuration changes.
• Provide user support and training; resolve access issues and capture recurring trends.
• Collect, update, and maintain operational logs, incident and deficiency reports, checklists.
• Perform incident response: triage, escalation, resolution, and documentation.
• Backup and restore operations to protect mission data and ensure continuity.
• Support system administration and database functions as needed.
• Ensure procedural compliance and proper record-keeping for audits/inspections.
• Support performance optimization and status reporting; mentor junior team members where needed.

The role involves providing technical and operational support for mission systems, ensuring reliable operations, responsive user support, and high‑quality documentation in a TS/SCI environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite and on‑call system administration and operational support for mission systems at Peterson SFB.
• Troubleshoot and correct system, network, and software issues impacting operations.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance, including applying patches, updates, and configuration changes.
• Provide user support and training; resolve access and operation issues and capture recurring trends.
• Collect, update, and maintain operational logs, incident reports, deficiency reports, and checklists.
• Perform incident response, including triage, escalation, resolution, and documentation.
• Perform backup and restore operations to protect mission data and ensure continuity.
• Support system administration and database functions as needed.
• Ensure procedural compliance and proper record‑keeping for audits and inspections.
• Support performance optimization, data integrity, and management status reporting; for lead roles, direct day‑to‑day execution and mentor junior team members.

Qualifications

• 7‑10 years of relevant experience in systems or network administration, systems support, or similar technical roles in secure, mission‑critical (DoD or similar) environments.
• Strong leadership capabilities in directing project/task execution across domains such as maintenance, integration, and data management.
• Experience allocating resources, monitoring progress, and ensuring quality deliverables.
• Demonstrated ability to resolve operational issues and provide precise, timely status updates to management and stakeholders.
• Experience managing schedules and aligning tasks with program objectives to support integrated operations across functional domains.
• Strong documentation skills for logs, incident reports, and technical records.
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, data science, software engineering, or a closely related field, or equivalent DoD/Military training in systems administration, network operations, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum: Active TS/SCI clearance required to start.
• Holds a DoD 8140 qualifying certification; one or more of the following (or equivalent) is required/preferred: Cloud+, GSEC, Security+, SSCP.

Pay Transparency Statement

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is USD $94,400.00 per year – USD $156,000.00 per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
