Northside Hospital Laboratory Technician Job Description

Job Responsibilities

Organizes and staffs the work activities of the laboratory during each shift to provide laboratory services to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Required Qualifications
  1. Associates degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution, plus four (4) years' experience as a medical technologist/med lab technician.
  2. Must submit to a color vision acuity test. Color vision acuity is required to safely perform the duties of this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Computer skills: knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel); basic statistics skills.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Master's Degree in science.
  4. Certified as a technical specialist (ASCP).
  5. Two years of supervisory and/or management experience in a clinical laboratory.
  6. Expertise in assay development.
  7. Experience in various methods of nucleic acids purification (DNA, RNA).
  8. Knowledge of various platforms for real-time PCR (TaqMan, FRET, etc.).
  9. Knowledge of workflow for sequence analysis and/or DNA-fragment analysis.
  10. Ability to prioritize duties, define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  11. Ability to adjust to flexible schedules, varied hours, or work on-call.
