Job summary

Litman Excavating Inc. is seeking a reliable Nightshift Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, and support vehicles.

You’ll work independently during night hours to ensure equipment is safe, operational, and ready for the next day’s production schedule. The role requires 2+ years of diesel and heavy equipment experience, strong diagnostics, and the ability to work through night shifts in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy equipment, or fleet mechanic.
• Ability to work independently on night shift.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and diesel engines.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment.
• Complete DVIR defect repairs and update maintenance records.
• Perform routine services: oil changes, brakes, tires, PM inspections, fluid checks.
• Troubleshoot engine, transmission, and driveline problems.
• Maintain shop cleanliness and organization of tools.
• Communicate major issues or required parts to the Maintenance Manager.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience as a diesel, heavy equipment, or fleet mechanic
• Ability to work independently on night shift
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Experience with hydraulic systems, electrical troubleshooting, and diesel engines
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various weather conditions
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required)

Preferred Skills

• Familiarity with Samsara, Fiix, or similar maintenance software
• Welding and fabrication experience
• CDL-A or CDL-B
• Experience with construction/excavation equipment (excavators, loaders, dozers, etc.)
