Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a Bakery Clerk to staff the in-store bakery. You will greet customers, help with product selection, and ensure fresh baked goods. No prior experience is required; we will train and support you as you grow. You’ll work in a fast-paced, friendly team, handling orders, restocking, and maintaining cleanliness throughout your shift.

You’ll also assist with cashier duties, keep the bakery organized, and follow safety and sanitation standards to ensure a positive customer experience.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; training provided.
• Ability to follow written/verbal instructions with confidence.
• Friendly and clear communication with customers and teammates.
• Stay organized and keep pace in a busy bakery environment.
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers warmly and making them feel welcome in the bakery.
• Assist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and taking orders at the bakery counter.
• Review daily orders and monitor product freshness, appearance, and supply levels throughout your shift.
• Prepare, finish, and replenish baked goods as needed, pulling product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for baking.
• Follow and maintain proper sanitation procedures, keeping your work area clean and organized at all times.
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed.
• Operate the department register to process payments where applicable.
• Remove trash in a timely manner and maintain a tidy department.
• Work alongside your teammates to ensure a smooth, positive experience for every customer.
• Maintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policies.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as needed.
