Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with Charge RN experience for a night shift travel assignment in North Carolina. Requires NC/compact license, BLS, Epic charting, and prior travel and Charge RN experience; 2+ years RN experience.

The 29-bed unit handles orthopedic and medical-surgical cases, with high volumes of joint replacements and trauma. Night shifts are 7p-7:30a, weekends required, no on-call, with mandatory floating and Charge RN duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Active NC or compact RN license required at time of consideration.
• BLS certification required.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
• Previous travel nursing experience required.
• Previous Charge RN experience required.
• Epic charting system experience required.
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and PICC line management.
• Experience with central line blood draws and peripheral line care.
• Skilled in chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), tracheostomy care, and oxygen therapy.
• Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube management.
• Experience managing continuous bladder irrigation and renal failure patients.
• Experience caring for CVA and pre/post neurosurgery patients.
• Skilled in administering Heparin and PCA medications.
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and dysrhythmia interpretation.
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac.
• Experience in ortho trauma, total joint replacement, and surgical drain management.

Responsibilities

• 29-bed unit caring for adult through geriatric patients, including orthopedic and medical surgical cases.
• High volume of total joint replacements, fracture repairs, and kyphoplasty patients.
• Moderate volume of other surgical procedures, inpatient, and 24-hour observation medical patients Telemetry monitoring available on the unit.
• On-unit physical therapy gym for patient rehabilitation.
• Patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 7p-730a
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required as needed, including to any Cone Health campus
• Required to work Charge RN shifts as needed
• Epic EMR experience required
• Provide direct patient care across a mixed RN/LPN care team in a fast-paced environment
• Charge RNs on this unit carry a patient load in addition to charge duties
• Must pass a compliance EKG exam with up to two attempts allowed
• Schedules are built every six weeks based on unit demand, with set weekend schedules only
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as no local rates apply
• RTO must be submitted at the time of application; no post-submission RTO requests accepted
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position due to travel experience requirement
