Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to ensure cleaning, disinfection, inspection, assembly and sterilization of instruments and case carts. Shifts include 11:00 pm - 7:30 am. Candidates should have CRCST certification and a high school diploma, with 1 year internal SPD experience or 2 years external SPD I-level experience; training

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; CRCST certification preferred.
• CRCST certification or equivalent required.
• 1 year internal SPD experience or 2 years external SPD I-level experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintains policies and procedures while following QA, safety, and infection control standards.
• Decontaminates, cleans, inspects, and assembles instruments and devices per policy.
• Packages and wraps items to maintain sterility using proper techniques.
• Operates and troubleshoots sterilization equipment (steam, low-temp, ETO, washer‑disinfectors).
• Performs testing of sterilization cycles and documents results per QA standards.
• Assembles complex trays, specialty sets, code carts, and case carts.
• Identifies and handles specialized instrumentation for advanced procedures.
• Maintains records for loads, tracking, and inventory.
• Receives patient care equipment requests and delivers to units promptly.
• Adheres to infection prevention and chemical safety guidelines.
• Provides training and supports team on instrumentation and processes.
• Participates in education, in-service training, and process improvement.
