Job summary

Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the Family Birthing Center. The role performs scrub duties in the OR under RN supervision, with a 7:00p–7:00a night shift and 0.60 FTE.

Qualifications include completion of an accredited surgical technologist program with certification, or equivalent military training, BLS, and some OR experience preferred. This part-time position offers night differential and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and maintains a surgical technologist certification; new graduates may obtain certification within six months of graduation.
• Completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the US Army, Navy, or Air force.
• Previously employed to practice surgical technology at a Penn State Health facility on or before December 29, 2020, or as primary function at another healthcare facility within the two years prior to December 29, 2020.
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) – required prior to the end of the orientation period.

Responsibilities

• Performs scrub duties in the Operating Room under the guidance of the Registered Nurse.
• Prepares supplies and equipment for use in surgical procedures.
• Assists in surgical procedures adhering to aseptic technique and proper instrument handling.
• Acting as a preceptor to less experienced staff and students as indicated.
