Job summary

Mary Washington Healthcare in Fredericksburg, VA is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician I for the Central Sterile area on the night shift. You will clean, disinfect, inspect, assemble and sterilize instruments and supplies, ensuring case carts are prepared accurately and safely for patient care.

This role requires high school diploma or GED, sterile processing training or CRCST certification preferred, and the ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment with strict infection control

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician training program preferred.
• Current certification in Sterile Processing Technology (CRCST or equivalent) preferred.
• Minimum of one year of sterile processing experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to stay organized and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic computer skills required; experience with instrument tracking systems preferred.
• Ability to operate automated and technical equipment used in sterile processing.

Responsibilities

• Maintains departmental policies and procedures while following quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Decontaminates, cleans, inspects, and assembles surgical instruments and medical devices.
• Packages and wraps instruments and supplies to maintain sterility.
• Operates and troubleshoots sterilization equipment, including steam and low-temperature systems.
• Performs testing of sterilization cycles and documents results.
• Assembles surgical trays, code carts, and case carts accurately.
• Maintains records for sterilization loads, instrument tracking, and inventory.
