Job summary

St. Luke’s University Health Network is seeking a Certified SPD Float Technician for late evening/night shifts (start times 7pm–11pm, Monday–Friday).

The role involves floating between Bethlehem, Allentown, and Anderson/ASP to decontaminate, sterilize, and assemble medical devices and trays for patient care. Qualified candidates will hold a High School diploma or equivalent and SPD certification, with preference for certified and registered technicians and at least 2 years of experience.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• SPD certification is required.
• Must be a Certified and Registered Technician through an approved organization.

Responsibilities

• Provides Technician coverage at varying sites and workstation assignments to meet the operational needs of the department.
• Assists in the training and orientation of new employees as well as teach and mentor students as well as externs from affiliated health career programs.
• Retrieves, sorts and decontaminates used materials, instruments, medical devices and equipment from nursing units and other departments according to established procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of decontamination equipment operation and sterilization processes, and ensures proper packaging and labeling of items.
• Assembles, inspects and packages instruments and trays, ensuring accuracy and bioburden control; replaces missing or broken items per protocol.
• Sterilizes wrapped and packaged items by steam, hydrogen peroxide or EtO and maintains documentation for each load.
• Operates and logs instrument tracking system activities and ensures quality control documentation.
