Job summary

Penn Medicine's Lancaster General Hospital seeks a Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice to join a fast-paced Trauma/Spine/Stroke unit. This role supports newly licensed RNs with 36 hours per week, night shifts from 7:00pm to 7:30am, and every third weekend/holiday.

The apprentice will develop practice under supervision, complete Nurse Residency, and provide direct patient care across the lifespan while contributing to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• RN licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
• BSN or higher nursing degree required.
• NCLEX must be completed within 60 days of starting.
• CPR Certification (AHA) required within 30 days of hire.
• Nurse Residency Program completion required.

Responsibilities

• Incorporate mission, vision and values into planning patient care.
• Function as a team member within the health care team on the unit.
• Perform patient assessments across physiological, psychological and cognitive domains.
• Formulate age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care plans.
• Implement care and coordinate across disciplines and caregivers.
• Provide leadership and communicate expected standards of care.
• Demonstrate commitment to privacy, quality, respect, service and teamwork.
• Assign, delegate and supervise staff to ensure care plans are carried out.
• Educate patients about healthy practices and treatment modalities.
• Advance nursing practice through quality improvement and technology use.
• Consider safety, cost and impact in planning and delivery of nursing services.
• Manage rapidly changing situations per protocols and document events.
• Participate in process improvements to enhance continuity of nurse-patient relationships.
• Complete mandatory education and training on age-specific needs and skills.
• Maintain a safe working environment and report safety variances.
• Show pride in work and seek ongoing learning opportunities.
• Provide supervision and mentorship to peers and subordinates.
• Participate in employee performance processes and address concerns.
• Fulfill on-call responsibilities as required.
