Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Staff Nurse to join the Geriatric Psychiatry unit (2JPE) at John Pappajohn Pavilion. This 14-bed inpatient unit cares for dementia, depression, anxiety, Parkinson’s and related conditions, with electroconvulsive therapy and therapy services.

The role involves applying nursing theory to patient care, coordinating across teams, developing care plans, and documenting responses. 70-80% time, night shifts Mon-Thu, Iowa City location.

Qualifications

• Must hold an Iowa RN license at hire date.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Interdisciplinary collaboration with nursing and therapy teams.
• General computer skills required.

Responsibilities

• Apply nursing theory to assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation.
• Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
• Coordinate continuum of care across settings.
• Develop and implement patient care plans based on patient condition.
• Document interventions and patient/family responses.
• Collaborate with patients and families in care plans.
• Coordinate transfer and discharge planning.
• Follow department policies and universal precautions.
