Job summary

The Johns Hopkins Hospital seeks a PRN Respiratory Care Practitioner in the Adult Respiratory Care Department. You will independently provide specialized respiratory care for adults across the continuum of care with minimal supervision.

You will assess, treat, and monitor patients, initiating respiratory therapies and interpreting blood gases while collaborating with an interprofessional team to ensure safe, compassionate care and optimal outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field required.
  • Graduation from a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Current Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
  • Current NBRC Respiratory Therapist credential.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
  • ACLS certification where applicable based on clinical area.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients and determine respiratory needs using evidence-based practices.
  • Develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans with the care team.
  • Initiate, monitor, and adjust respiratory therapies and equipment.
  • Draw and interpret blood gases and adjust ventilation accordingly.
  • Operate ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and related devices.
  • Respond to emergencies and rapidly changing clinical situations.
  • Provide clinical and technical guidance on modalities and equipment.
  • Support staff orientation and student education in clinical rotations.
  • Document assessments and interventions in the EMR.
  • Communicate plans and outcomes to patients, families, and interdisciplinary team.
