The RN provides knowledgeable clinical practice and coordination of care within a collaborative team. Education requirements include a BSN and Virginia RN licensure, with BLS and specialty certifications

Qualifications

• BSN required; if ADN, BSN must be completed within 5 years of start date.
• Minimum 1 year RN experience in acute care.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers required at start; ACLS within 6 months for CCU; PALS within 6 months for pediatric units.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations.
• Conducts all patient care in a patient- and family-centered manner with multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Advocates for patients' rights and counsels while resolving issues as a resource.
• Coordinates healthcare and services for patient/family transition planning.
• Documents all patient care activities and supports documentation standards.
• Evaluates processes to achieve outcomes and revises plans as needed.
• Makes clinical decisions and promotes development of clinical decision-making among staff.
• Communicates effectively and respects other clinical disciplines.
• Provides guidance as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor.

The Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care and conducting all patient care in a patient/family centered manner. Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Determines processes for delivery of care from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

• Conducts all patient care in a patient and family centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care
• Advocates for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective and provides counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues
• Accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning
• Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation
• Evaluates the process to achieve outcomes, anticipates patient variances and makes revisions to plans of care
• Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members
• Communicates effectively, works cooperatively with others, and has respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines
• Assists staff to assess patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education
• Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor and delegates patient care activities and coordinates unit activities as needed
• Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery and ensures that the process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration
• Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
• Evaluates clinical and quality outcomes and contributes to performance improvement initiatives
• May perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.

Experience: A minimum of 1 year of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting.

Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start | For Critical Care Units: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - Within 6 Months | For Pediatric Units: Pediatric Advanced Life Support- Within 6 Months

Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of recent (within the past year) Labor and Delivery Experience in an inpatient setting.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) .
