Job summary

Branch's Civil Division is seeking a skilled Pipe Layer to join our growing company. The Pipe Layer will prepare and install underground pipelines for road construction and report to the Pipe Foreman.

Required are 3–5 years of underground pipe laying and 2–4 years in road construction. You will lay out routes, cut pipes, align and connect pieces, and promote safety on site. This is a full-time field position in Roanoke, VA.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 3–5 years of underground pipe laying experience.
• 2–4 years of road construction experience preferred.
• Knowledge of pipe laying techniques.
• Ability to meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
• Detail-oriented and able to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Install sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
• Lay out pipe routes according to specs or blueprints and coordinate layouts with supervisor.
• Cut pipes to required lengths.
• Assist in aligning pipes during pipeline construction.
• Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
• Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or lasers.
• Connect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement or glue.
• Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices.
• Cover pipes with earth or other materials.
• Grade and level trench bases using tamping machines and hand tools.
• Other general labor and construction related duties as required.
• Promote and adhere to the company’s safety program.
