Job summary

Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA, seeks a Mental Health Technician for the Perinatal Mental Health Unit. The role focuses on supporting perinatal mothers with emotional and psychological well-being in a specialized inpatient setting.

Responsibilities include bedside care, crisis intervention, group sessions, and thorough documentation. The position is part-time with two 12-hour night shifts (7pm–7am) and weekend requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of prior experience in behavioral and mental health.
• Perinatal care experience desirable, but not required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.
• Certification as a Mental Health Technician highly desirable upon hire.
• Crisis/Violence Intervention Training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide emotional support to perinatal patients.
• Provide individualized bedside care and teaching to patients and families.
• Treat patients and families with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
• Monitor patients' mental health status and report concerns.
• Intervene in crisis situations and de-escalate when needed.
• Assist with group therapy sessions and educational classes on perinatal mental health.
• Maintain accurate patient records and assist with vital signs and specimen collection.
• Communicate patient and unit status clearly to the healthcare team.
• Restock supplies and maintain a clean, safe unit.
• Perform well checks and conduct daily environmental safety rounds.
• Assist with activities of daily living as needed.
