Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I to join our care team. The role supports licensed clinicians, assists with daily living activities, and helps ensure patient safety and comfort in a dynamic hospital setting.

Responsibilities include vital signs, biopsychosocial support, basic nursing tasks, and team collaboration. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and BLS certification, with English proficiency and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school education or GED.
• Current Basic Life Support.
• Demonstrated competency attainment in the Patient Care Technician I level, work a minimum of 800 hours and at least 6 months as a PCT I.
• 6 months of prior inpatient/outpatient direct patient care experience.
• Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
• Medical Terminology knowledge.
• Computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to gather information and support teamwork.
• Problem-solving abilities for routine situations.
• Must be able to remain calm when under stress or in emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Provides clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes seen in patients.
• Maintains constant observation of high-risk patients as assigned.
• Assists in creating a safe environment and de-escalation; uses restraints as directed.
• Assists patients with daily living activities.
• Aids in moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients with proper safety techniques.
• Performs vital signs, height/weight measurements.
• Performs EKGs and Point of Care tests; collects specimens for lab transport.
• Phlebotomy in certain locations.
