Job summary

IU Health Lafayette is seeking a Full-Time Night Unit Clerk / Patient Care Assistant to provide direct patient care and clerical support for the department. You will assist the clinical team, maintain a clean environment, and help coordinate tests and patient flow.

Responsibilities include signing in/out patients, updating records, delivering equipment, and monitoring patients as directed, including suicide prevention when required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR/BLS may be required after PCA program.
• Previous acute patient care experience or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Infection control knowledge.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Clinical Nurse.
• Perform unit clerical duties to support the patient care team.
• Maintain a clean and orderly patient environment.
• Provide information and directions to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors.
• May schedule tests and procedures and maintain patient records.
• Sign patients in and out of the unit and assist with equipment/orders as needed.
• Provide continuous observation including suicide prevention when required.
