Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Technician/Nursing Assistant for a per diem night shift. Under RN/LPN supervision, you will provide direct patient care, assist with daily living activities, and monitor vital signs in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Preferred candidates hold a high school diploma and prior Nursing Assistant experience in hospital or ambulatory settings. PCT certification is required within the first year of employment, with salary steps noted in internal policy.

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• PCT certification required within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with basic needs: bathing, grooming, dressing, eating and using the restroom.
• Regularly measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, BP, respiration).
• Draw blood, urine or stool samples for testing as required.
• Perform activities of daily living assistance and engage patients in activities.
• Report changes in patient condition to nursing staff promptly.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment; respond to call bells and phones.
• Assist with supplies ordering, storage and usage; perform other duties as assigned.
• Assist patients in moving and transferring with appropriate devices.
• Act as liaison between patients, families and medical staff; provide comfort and reassurance.
