Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Nursing Resource Pool (NRP) on the night shift. You will provide direct patient care under nursing supervision, perform activities of daily living, and monitor patients across units as needed.

Requirements include a Texas CNA license, BLS, and at least two years of inpatient/acute care experience. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and flexibility in a high-acuity environment.

Qualifications

• Active Texas CNA License
• BLS with the American Heart Association (RQI is not accepted)
• Minimum of two years of experience in an inpatient/acute care setting
• Strong communication and de-escalation skills
• Ability to work in fast-paced, high-acuity environments
• Preferred experience providing 1:1 observation for patients who are agitated, confused, combative, or on suicidal precautions.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and support under the supervision of nursing staff
• Assist with activities of daily living, mobility, hygiene, and comfort measures
• Perform 1:1 observation for patients who are agitated, confused, combative, or on suicidal precautions
• Monitor and report changes in patient behavior or condition
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for all patients
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care
• Document care activities accurately and promptly
• Float to different inpatient units every shift, even multiple times in an 8- or 12-hour shift
