Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing seeks Patient Care Technicians for the Adult Short Stay Unit (LLJCP) to support nurses in delivering patient care. Responsibilities span vital signs, phlebotomy, ECG lead placement, admissions/discharges, hygiene, and comfort measures on a 70% time basis during night shifts with weekend/holiday rotations.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow instructions is required.
• Experience performing vital signs and basic patient care tasks is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Independently obtain and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Perform basic procedures such as phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, and Foley catheter removal and care.
• Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; provide for personal hygiene and comfort.
• Turn, reposition, and ambulates patients; transport patients, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with feeding, hydration, and monitoring intake and output.
• Participate in nursing care conferences and communicate pertinent patient information to the nurse in charge.
