Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center is hiring a Patient Care Tech for the 12-hour night shift (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) in Des Moines, IA. You will support licensed clinicians by delivering direct patient care and performing studies and tests as assigned, rotating weekends and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, monitoring patient status, recording vital signs, and ensuring safety and comfort.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six weeks of hire.

Responsibilities

• Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
• Performs activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transport, ROM exercises, dressing, feeding, and changing bandages.
• Responds to patient calls and ensures safety and comfort through proper safety measures and rounding.
• Calculates intake and output, measures vital signs, performs bedside glucose testing, and records entries in health records.
• Initiates or assists with emergency support measures (CPR, patient protection).
• Sets up equipment and supplies for procedures and prepares patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers.
• Observes and reports changes in patient condition to the nurse.
• Collects and labels specimens; operates and maintains equipment.
