Job summary

The RWJBarnabas Health Behavioral Health Center in Toms River, NJ is seeking a Patient Care Associate for the Adult Psychiatry unit. This per diem night-shift role supports patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, and collaborative care with the nursing team.

You will work under RN supervision, provide compassionate care to adults and older adults, and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment while documenting care activities and contributing to patient recovery.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current BLS certification required.
• New Jersey PCA certification preferred.
• Minimum of one year of geriatric patient experience required for per diem position.
• Per diem night shift with every-other-weekend involvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including activities of daily living, personal hygiene, mobility, and nutrition needs.
• Take and document vital signs and report changes to the nursing team.
• Provide one-to-one observation and group supervision to maintain a safe environment.
• Support patients with compassion, dignity, and respect while encouraging independence.
• Transport patients to ancillary departments and emergency services as needed.
• Collaborate with nurses to support individualized treatment plans.
• Document patient care activities per hospital policies and procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment.
• Build trusting relationships with patients through empathy and professionalism.
