Job summary

Henry Ford Macomb Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join a fast-paced, community-focused lab team. You will perform routine and complex analyses on blood and body fluids, using manual and automated techniques, with rotation through all departments.

Under general supervision, you’ll ensure accuracy through QC, collaborate with ER and outpatient teams, and participate in ongoing quality improvement while enjoying a night shift in a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; must meet ASCP education eligibility routes for Medical Laboratory Scientist or hold a related categorical scientist level certification (BB, C, CG, CT, M, MB); or have met AAB/AMT requirements.
• Requires six months of experience in a medical laboratory setting.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency and theoretical knowledge sufficient to perform laboratory functions.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex test procedures on laboratory specimens using manual or automated techniques and information systems, for diagnosing, preventing, or treating disease.
• Evaluates instrument performance and quality control results to ensure accuracy and reliability of analytic data.
• Correlates results with other lab data and disease states.
• Performs calibration, preventive maintenance, quality control, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and laboratory information systems.
• Complies with policies including safety, confidentiality, and quality improvement; participates in competency assessments and quality assurance activities.

Education
