Job summary

Jefferson Health in Cherry Hill, NJ is seeking a Mental Health Technician to assist with patient care, monitor mood and behavior, and support the nursing staff. The role emphasizes compassionate, patient-centered care and timely reporting of changes to the RN.

You will participate in rounds, assist with activities, and help maintain a safe and supportive environment while documenting care according to hospital guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED with related health care experience or completion of a supervised mental health practicum and social sciences credits.
• Experience in mental health or addictions care is required/preferred based on campus.
• Bachelor’s degree in humanities or social services supports related roles.
• Knowledge of behavioral treatment techniques and documentation requirements.
• Familiarity with Jefferson Health ethics and patient safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Recognize patients and family partners to deliver safe, compassionate, coordinated care.
• Communicate with interprofessional team, patients, families and staff, including written and verbal interactions.
• Use verbal de-escalation and follow protocols to ensure patient safety and conduct rounding.
• Lead or assist with group activities and support RN with patient care per unit protocols.
• Assist with personal care, ambulation, feeding, and promote patient independence where possible.
• Document accurately per hospital policies and participate in meetings and orientation as assigned.

Education

High School Diploma/GED + 1 year related health care experience

Supervised mental health or addiction practicum + 12 college credits in social sciences + 2 years mental health/addictions care

Bachelor’s Degree in humanities or social services + 1 year mental health/addictions care

Knowledge of behavioral treatment techniques

Health information/documentation knowledge
