Job summary

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift on a 33-bed adult unit requiring an active VA or compact RN license.

Responsibilities include direct patient care on a non-telemetry unit, inpatient rehab/med-surg cases, and potential float to nearby Med/Surg units. Night shift, 3x12 hours, with weekend requirements and holiday coverage. First-time travelers welcome; local candidates are generally not accepted.

Qualifications

• Active VA state or compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for single-state candidates from non-compact states)
• BLS certification required
• CRRN certification preferred
• CPI Blue certification highly preferred
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Experience in Med Surg and Rehab settings required
• Skilled in peripheral line care/management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration and tanks
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE required
• Charge nurse experience preferred

Responsibilities

• 33-bed adult Med Surg unit with no telemetry
• Inpatient Rehab/Med Surg patient population including SCVA, SCI, TBI, amputee, and multi-trauma cases
• 1:6 patient ratios, may flex up to 1:7
• Night shift, 3x12 hours, 7p-7a
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• May be required to float to nearby facility for Med Surg units only (11W, 10W, 9W, and 5W)
• EPIC charting system preferred
• Provide direct patient care including cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and use of rapid response/code teams
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with two holidays required if assignment spans winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/Day)
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 100 miles of the facility are not accepted, with limited exceptions for those living 50-99.9 miles away (single assignment only, no extension) or under 50 miles (single assignment at lower bill rate, no extension)
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, subject to facility leadership review on a case-by-case basis
