Job summary

Darling Ingredients is seeking a Mechanic 2 to perform intermediate to advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on trailers, diesel, and gasoline powered vehicles and plant equipment. This role is on the night shift (5pm-5am) and builds on Mechanic 1 duties.

The position requires 3+ years of relevant experience (or VOC/1+ year with training), a valid license, and a personal tool set. Candidates should be proficient with OEM diagnostics and able to follow safety and documentation procedures.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED; Brake Certification may be required.
• Valid Driver's license is required.
• 3+ years of experience in vehicle maintenance or related technical field, or Vocational training plus 1+ year of related work.
• Must have personal basic tool set to perform preventative maintenance (location dependent).
• Proficiency with diesel and gasoline engine operation and components.
• Experience with OEM diagnostics tools and software.
• Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, work orders, and technical manuals.
• Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
• Detail oriented and highly organized.
• Proficient with basic computer tasks and fleet software.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, transmissions, and hydraulics.
• Interpret repair manuals to properly fix equipment.
• Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders in fleet systems.
• Respond to roadside service calls when required.
• Mentor Mechanic 1 where needed and support team goals.
• Perform preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles and plant equipment.
• Ensure safety rules and regulations are followed at all times.
