Job summary

Darling Ingredients is seeking a Mechanic 1 for its night shift to perform routine maintenance on trailers, diesel and gasoline powered vehicles, and plant equipment. You will develop core competencies under supervision, participating in basic repairs and diagnosing issues with standard tools.

Responsibilities include inspecting reports, changing oil and filters, and maintaining logs. You will operate safely, attend training, and assist in more complex repairs as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Experience with basic computer tasks and fleet software
  • Good understanding of diesel and gasoline engines
  • Ability to read maintenance logs and use basic diagnostic tools
  • Safety-conscious with willingness to participate in training

Responsibilities

  • Review vehicle inspection reports and repair as directed
  • Perform routine maintenance: oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks
  • Inspect and replace belts, hoses, batteries, and lights
  • Assist in diagnosing mechanical issues using basic tools
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop and work area
  • Document work performed and parts used in logs
  • Support senior mechanics with more complex repairs
  • Respond to roadside service calls as needed
  • Adhere to all safety rules and participate in safety meetings
  • Travel for training/certification as required
