Job summary

Linn County Juvenile Detention and Diversion Services is seeking a dedicated staff member to supervise and safeguard youthful residents in the detention and diversion facilities.

You will conduct intake, monitor safety, respond to emergencies, assist with medication, and maintain daily records. This is a full-time night shift with competitive wages and benefits including IPERS retirement and on-site wellness resources.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of relevant youth care/behavior management experience.
• Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or related field.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Conduct intake activities to obtain required information.
• Check and maintain security and safety of residents on a continual basis.
• Respond to emergencies including escapes, suicide attempts, overdoses, and intoxicated youth.
• Physically restrain residents for protection using non-mechanical methods.
• Supervise residents during late evening and early morning hours.
• Monitor access to and within the building using cameras and security systems.
• May awaken residents, supervise showers, and dispense medication as needed.
• Supervise and monitor residents' behavior and maintain daily records.
• Perform data entry, file auditing, and reporting for program records.
• Explain and enforce rules consistently and fairly.
• Listens to the voice of the customer and closes gaps between expectations and experience.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent + 2 years in care, counseling, and management of dependent, neglected, or delinquent adolescents

Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, sociology, criminal justice or related field
