Night Shift Ink Technician — Color & Quality Specialist

Job summary

Overwraps, Inc. in Dallas, TX seeks an ink technician to support daily production by preparing inks, adjusting viscosity, and maintaining color consistency across jobs. You will follow SOPs, operate the color measurement tools, and ensure proper labeling and inventory control in the ink room.

The role includes collaborating with press operators, reviewing color data for quality, training new associates, and upholding GMP, SQF, and 5S standards to deliver safe, high-quality products.

Responsibilities

• Makes inks according to the daily production schedule.
• Reads entire job ticket for information required for the set up and running of production order.
• Assist the press operator and press assistant during changeovers by assuring that the decks are being washed down correctly and the inks are being properly saved and labeled for return to inventory. Return inks to inventory.
• Makes sure the press does not run out of ink at anytime
• Sends inks to press on color based on the standard
• Adjust inks to design expectations, measure color using Xrite Spectro densitometer and record data in ColorCert
• Ensure proper viscosity is maintained when making adds or toning ink press side.
• Prints ColorCert data for each job
• Review press sheets for color consistency and print quality.
• Maintain the shop floor ink inventory system.
• Keep the ink room clean, neat and organized.
• Keep the necessary solvents supplied in the solvent storage area in the ink room.
• Run the solvent recovery unit. Keep the area clean, neat and organized.
• Remove all empty drums to the storage area.
• Remove and label all Hazardous Waste including Plate Solvent & Press Wash Still Bottoms
• Maintain the satellite waste drums by sealing and weighing them. Place the proper label on them and remove them from the press room.
• Keep lids on all drums and buckets when not in use.
• Keep all inks and coatings mixed
• Cut all drums and kits to 5 seconds above run viscosity
• Operate within standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure a clean and safe work area.
• Complete production paperwork.
• Train new associates.
• Other duties as assigned by Shift Supervisor or Manager.
• Be available to cover absences within the department as requested by management.
• Cover the off-shift vacations and PTO
• Assure compliance with all SQF Procedure requirements
• Assure compliance with all GMP requirements
• Assure compliance with all 5S procedures and requirements
• Assure all products are manufactured in a safe, quality manner
• Assure compliance with all customer specifications
• Promote and enforce compliance with all employees
