Job summary

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a dedicated Unit Secretary for the Intermediate Cardiac Unit (ICU). This full-time role covers 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, totaling 36 hours per week.

The position supports efficient unit operations and patient record management. The ideal candidate has a High School diploma or GED, BLS certification if also working as a Clinical Technician, and healthcare experience with EPIC familiarity.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification required if also works as a Clinical Technician.
• EPIC experience and healthcare exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform clerical duties to support unit operations and manage records.
• Maintain physician and lab databases and keep supplies stocked.
• Attend meetings and record minutes as requested; prepare unit charges.
• Ensure confidentiality of patient information and proper medical record documentation.
• Extract and file test results, update patient charts in GECE/IDX and move to EDDIS as needed.
• Assist patients and families, triage basic needs, and inform the charge nurse of admissions or transfers.
• Coordinate patient movement, scheduling of tests, and liaise with nursing and transport staff.
• Greet patients and visitors, provide directions and non-clinical information to support prompt care.
