Job summary

Texas State University’s University Facilities Services Department seeks a dependable HVAC Mechanic I to join the night maintenance team. This role performs routine to moderately complex maintenance, inspection, installation, and repair of campus HVAC and refrigeration systems, following established procedures and escalating complex issues to supervisors.

The ideal candidate has an associate degree or equivalent with EPA 608 certification, at least one year of relevant experience, and a valid

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent with certification program.
• EPA 608 certification for assigned equipment.
• At least 1 year of HVAC maintenance/troubleshooting/repair experience.
• Basic HVAC knowledge and adherence to safety practices.
• Valid Texas driver’s license and eligibility to operate university vehicles.
• Willingness to work after-hours on-call on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and routine repairs of HVAC and refrigeration within demonstrated competency.
• Inspect air-handling units, exhaust fans, chillers, and related equipment.
• Change filters and belts, lubrication and bearing checks; replace routine components.
• Document readings and work orders in AiM in real time with accuracy.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, heat-pump and refrigerant issues and escalate as needed.
• Follow safety procedures and verify credentials before work.
