Job summary

The Kroger Co. is seeking an engaged associate to assist the Grocery Department Manager with planning, staffing, training and directing the department team.

You will help ensure prompt service, accurate ordering via CAO, and proper product presentation while upholding safety and company policies. You will contribute to budgeting, promote merchandising techniques, and maintain a positive environment for customers and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights as the work demands.
• Willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
• Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers.
• Understanding of department operations (managing people, merchandising, CAO, inventory management, etc.).
• Knowledge of employment laws and OSHA compliance.
• Able to operate power machinery and tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Department Manager in organizing work, filling staffing needs and training/scheduling associates for prompt service.
• Respond to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents and questions professionally.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and balance on hand in the Department Manager’s absence.
• Assist with pricing and displaying merchandise, signage and space allocation for products.
• Promote effective merchandising, customer service and promotional activities.
• Ensure adherence to company policies, including dress code, sanitation and harassment prevention.
• Provide input on department budgets, goals and results.
• Communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment and facilities to safety standards.
• Keep floor and grocery areas clean and sanitary.
• Contribute to implementing company initiatives and process improvements.
