Job summary

The University Housing Facilities team at UW–Madison is seeking a Facilities Technician I to support a 3rd shift focused on safety, maintenance, and resident services. The role involves cleaning, basic repairs, and troubleshooting to ensure reliable housing and dining spaces for students, staff, and guests.

We value dependable, service‑minded individuals who can follow procedures, assist with inspections, and respond to urgent maintenance needs as part of a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

• 6 months of general mechanical, small equipment repair, custodial, or floor experience.
• English proficiency required with the ability to speak, read, write, and understand verbal instructions

Responsibilities

• Assists with inventory and distribution of deliveries to appropriate entities under close supervision
• Assists with routine facility inspections and monitors cleanliness
• Utilizes basic equipment to repair and maintain basic machinery, equipment, and facility property under close supervision to prevent further damage and ensure optimal operation
• Escalates and documents issues according to established policies and procedures
• Responds to and resolves urgent or emergency elevator, mechanical, temperature, and safety issues in housing and dining spaces.
• Maintains and cleans residence halls, dining facilities, and immediate surrounding grounds and walkways.
