Job summary

Kansas City Public Schools is seeking a Lead Custodian to supervise mid-shift/night custodial operations and maintain a clean, safe school facility for students and staff.

The role requires coordinating shifts, training, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols, while delivering reliable service across classrooms, offices, gym, and common areas. Experience with custodial tasks and a high school diploma is preferred; the position is non-exempt with standard 260-day term.

Qualifications

• Job-related experience is desired.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to work in a school environment and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Assists with loading and unloading trucks and/or trailers for distributing materials.
• Assists with snow removal to maintain safe areas.
• Cleans assigned facilities to maintain sanitary and safe environments.
• Communicates with district personnel via email, phone, and written messages for information and action.
• Conducts training on safety procedures and using cleaning solvents.
• Plans and schedules custodial activities with the area manager.
• Coordinates routine and emergency shift schedules to ensure adequate staffing.
• Delivers items to appropriate parties within the site location.
• Inspects facilities for safety and cleanliness and identifies repairs.
• Maintains facility cleanliness and supplies.
